Hardwood Flooring in Park Ridge, IL
Hardwood is what we do best. 11 North installs engineered and solid hardwood for Park Ridge and the northwest Chicago suburbs - from classic wide-plank white oak to dramatic herringbone and chevron patterns. As an expert installer carrying premium lines like Mercier, Luzon, Mulligan, De Chateau, Proverico and Coastal Surfaces, we deliver floors that look flawless the day they go in and hold up for decades.
Engineered vs. solid hardwood
Solid hardwood is milled from a single piece of wood, can be sanded and refinished many times over its life, and is the traditional choice for above-grade rooms. Engineered hardwood bonds a real hardwood wear layer over a dimensionally stable plywood or HDF core, which resists the seasonal humidity swings common in Chicagoland homes and can be installed over concrete, radiant heat and below-grade spaces where solid wood can’t go. Both give you a genuine wood surface - we help you choose based on your subfloor, your room, and how the floor will live.
Herringbone, chevron & specialty patterns
Pattern work is a specialty of 11 North. Herringbone sets rectangular planks at a 90-degree zig-zag for a timeless, high-end look, while chevron miters the ends so the planks meet in clean continuous points. We also install borders, basket-weave, double-herringbone and mixed-width layouts. These installations demand precise layout, tight tolerances and an experienced crew - exactly the kind of work that separates a premium installer from a builder-grade one.
Wide plank & longboards
The trend in modern hardwood is wider and longer. Wide planks (typically 7"-10"+) and extra-long "longboard" lengths show off the natural grain, create fewer seams, and make rooms feel larger and more luxurious. We stock and source wide-plank and longboard collections from our premium brands in white oak, European oak and more, in matte, wire-brushed and hand-finished textures.
Pre-finished vs. site-finished
Pre-finished hardwood arrives sanded, stained and sealed from the factory with a tough, warrantied finish - it installs faster and your home stays dust-free. Site-finished hardwood is installed raw, then sanded, stained and finished on-site, giving you a perfectly smooth, seamless surface and unlimited stain and sheen options. Freshly sanding and staining on-site also lets us match an existing floor or hit an exact custom color. We do both and will tell you honestly which fits your project and timeline.
Species guide
White oak is the most popular choice today - versatile, neutral, and beautiful in wire-brushed and matte textures that suit modern and transitional homes. Red oak is the classic, traditional American hardwood with warmer tones and pronounced grain that complements established Park Ridge homes. Hard maple is extremely dense and smooth-grained, an excellent pick for high-traffic areas and families. Hickory delivers the most rustic, dramatic look, with bold grain and wide color variation for a statement floor. We bring samples to your home so you can see each species in your own light.
Premium brands we carry
We don’t stock builder-grade product. Mercier is a Canadian, eco-certified manufacturer known for low-VOC finishes and exceptional durability. De Chateau brings French-inspired wide-plank designs and rich character. Coastal Surfaces offers waterproof wood-look and specialty surfaces for tougher rooms. Proverico and Luzon round out our engineered hardwood collections, and Mulligan adds character-grade and designer plank options. Whatever look you’re after, we can source it from a line we trust.
What proper, to-spec installation means
Installing hardwood the right way means meeting the standards that govern how wood floors are assessed, acclimated, installed and finished. Expert installation means we test subfloor moisture and relative humidity, acclimate material correctly, follow manufacturer specifications, and use the right fasteners and adhesives for your product. It’s the difference between a floor that stays flat and tight for decades and one that cups, gaps or fails - and it protects your manufacturer warranty.
Our installation process
Every hardwood project starts with a free in-home estimate where we measure, inspect the subfloor and review samples in your space. We deliver and acclimate the wood, prep and flatten the subfloor, then install - nail-down, glue-down or floating depending on the product and substrate. Pattern and site-finished floors are sanded and finished in stages. We finish with trim, transitions and a thorough clean-up, and walk the completed floor with you before we call it done.

Hardwood Flooring Questions
Should I choose engineered or solid hardwood in the Chicago area? +
For many Chicagoland homes - especially over concrete, radiant heat or below grade - engineered hardwood is the smarter choice because its stable core resists our seasonal humidity swings. Solid hardwood is excellent for above-grade rooms and can be refinished more times. We assess your subfloor and room during the free estimate and recommend the right one.
Do you install herringbone and chevron floors? +
Yes - specialty patterns like herringbone, chevron, borders and mixed-width layouts are a focus of ours. They require precise layout and an experienced crew, which is exactly the kind of work 11 North specializes in.
What hardwood brands do you carry? +
We carry premium lines including Mercier, Luzon, Mulligan, De Chateau, Proverico and Coastal Surfaces. We do not install builder-grade product.
Can you sand and refinish my existing hardwood? +
Yes. We offer site-finished work including sanding and staining existing or newly installed floors on-site, which lets us match an existing floor or achieve a custom color and sheen.
